What Can I Expect After My Workplace Injury?

In the majority of cases, the company or at least their workers compensation attorney will contact you in regards to your work related injury. They will ask that you visit a doctor of their choosing. This may be necessary even after you have seen your own doctor.   Consult with a workers’ compensation attorney if you are not sure that you are required to see the doctor chosen by your employer’s insurance company.

Once you have visited their doctor your employer’s insurance company has chosen you will receive the report on your condition and the treatment suggested by the physician. It is suggested that you following the doctor’s orders for the treatment of your injury.  You may feel more comfortable by consulting with a workers compensation lawyer so you know that your rights are being preserved during this time. Physicians do not always agree on the same type of treatment and if your physician has told you to stay in bed and your employers physician would like you to begin physical therapy you will not know the course to take to be sure that your workers compensation benefits are not forfeited.

The company itself does not have much to say or do about the way in which the process is going.  If hazardous conditions were at the root of your injury they will probably not be too happy that were you injured and that you have talked with a workers’ compensation lawyer.

When the workers compensation attorney for your company contacts you, you should ask them to talk with your workers’ compensation lawyer so that both parties of aware of the details surrounding your case.  It is advised that you never sign documents from your employer’s attorney without having your workers’ compensation lawyer reviewing them.
